Water Glycol, Fire Resistant Hydraulic Fluid
Manufactured with UCON ADVANTA ™ Hydrolube Concentrate
from The Dow Chemical Company
DESCRIPTION:
UCON ADVANTA™ Hydrolube Concentrate
is a new,
patent-pending water-glycol hydraulic fluid (WGHF)
technology used in fluid formulations that provide
improved fire resistance
while protecting equipment
under severe service conditions.
Designed particularly for hydraulic systems utilizing
vane, gear, and piston hydraulic pumps used in steel,
aluminum, and die-casting industries,
UCON
ADVANTA™ Hydrolube
is based on optimized Dow
polymer chemistry and a new high performance additive
package.
UCON ADVANTA™
represents Dow’s latest
WGHF innovation and is based on our more than 60 years
of experience with polyalkylene glycol WGHF chemistry.
UCON ADVANTA™ Hydrolube Concentrate
enables
production of formulations with outstanding shear
stability compared to traditional WGHF’s, reducing fluid
maintenance, extending pump life, and reducing
reconditioning requirements. An innovative friction
modifier provides excellent pump lubrication and can
extend equipment service life while reducing maintenance
costs. The fluids also provide superior vapor phase and
solution corrosion protection compared to traditional
WGHF’s based on morpholine.
UCON ADVANTA™ Hydrolube Concentrate
is used
by formulators as the basis for high performance water
glycol hydraulic fluids suitable for use under higher
temperature service conditions such as those found in
steel and aluminum mills and die casting operations.
Compared to traditional WGHF’s the favorable
environmental profile of fluids formulated from
UCON
ADVANTA™ Hydrolube Concentrate
also makes them
an excellent choice in the formulation of fluids for other
applications.
FEATURES & BENEFITS
Low Pump Wear –
FR WG 200-XP
contains an
innovative friction modifier that provides excellent pump
lubrication, which can extend
equipment service life and
reduce maintenance costs. This lubrication performance
is demonstrated by results of Vickers vane testing shown
in Table 2 and proven in extensive field trials.
Madison Kipp Experiences 20 percent increase in pump
life in severe die casting service
After six months of continuous use under severe operating
conditions in a Buhler SE die casting machine at
Madison-Kipp Corporation,
FR WG 200-XP
has
increased pump life by 20 percent compared to pump
service with a previous WGHF. Minimal wear has been
detected during scheduled pump inspection. Fluid life has
also been extended compared
to the previous WGHF;
after six months of service, the fluid is still well within
specification. The hydraulic
system at Madison-Kipp’s
Sun Prairie, Wisconsin facility utilizes three Hartmann
PVX series piston pumps in tandem and operates at a
maximum pressure of 3100 psi and at 113°F(45°C).
Based on the success of this trial, Madison-Kipp and Dow
are working with pump manufacturer, Hartmann Controls,
Inc., to further improve pump performance. Madison-
Kipp was founded in 1898 and is a leading metal
fabricator that also operat
es and aluminum foundry and
provides die casting and mach
inery operations. Hartmann
Controls, Inc. specializes in the production of piston
pumps tailored for applications using low lubricity and
other non-petroleum-based hydraulic fluids.
